The county's DAV Transportation page: "Van Transportation. Veteran's Vehicle Transportation to Altoona. To schedule transportation for the Disabled American Veteran's vehicle from Centre County to James Van Zandt Medical Center, Altoona, call 814-355-6812 or 814-943-8164. Your appointment must be made at least three working days in advance. If you leave a message, please provide your full name, your phone number, the date and time of your appointment and the location of your appointment (Altoona or Pittsburgh). Our DAV Transportation scheduler will call to verify your appointment date and, if required, gather more information about your appointment. If you have not received confirmation and it is within two days of your appointment, call 355-6812, to verify your transportation request." Requirements: "You must be ambulatory. (Able to get into and out of the vehicle on your own.) If you are on oxygen, we can only transport portable oxygen tanks. You will need to have a photo ID to show the driver when you are picked up. If you need someone to accompany you on the ride, you will need a letter from your primary care provider indicating that you require an aide to assist you to travel. The aid will need to show a photo ID card and a copy of the doctor's letter for all transports."
