Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

No officer the county names. Castro County's site links a "Veterans Information" page that carries no text, and a "Texas Veterans Portal" link to the State's veterans portal; no page names a veterans service officer. The 2027 final budget (the approved FY 2026-2027 budget, printed August 24, 2026) has no veterans department or line; its Health and Welfare department pays only a health officer, rabies control and aid to a food bank, child protective services and mental health. A county of under 200,000 people is not required to keep an officer (Government Code 434.032; see the Texas entry). TexVet. TexVet's county list names Donna Charanza for Castro, (806) 647-4666, [email protected]. No county page confirms the name, the number or the castrocounty.org address, so call before visiting. Where the county has no officer, the Texas Veterans Commission's claims counselors help any veteran free (see the Texas entry). County contacts. The County Judge's office, Judge Mandy Gfeller, 100 East Bedford, Room 111, Dimmitt, (806) 647-4451. The County Clerk records discharges (see castro-tx-county-clerk-discharges).
