The Fargo-Moorhead fixed-route buses are free for every veteran from November 11, 2025 on presentation of a veteran ID; service-connected disabled veterans rode free before that on the VA card.
Also called: MATBUS, transit, bus, ride free, Fargo, Metro Area Transit, veteran ID.
Metro Area Transit, the Fargo-Moorhead fixed-route system that serves Fargo, West Fargo and the county's urban area, carries veterans free. MATBUS's fare page says: "Starting November 11, 2025, all veterans will be able to ride for free, regardless of disability. They must present their veteran ID card at time of boarding, but it no longer needs to say 'service connected'." Before that date the free ride was for service-connected disabled veterans presenting the VA identification card.
The county's own veterans services pages list the same benefit: under Metro Area Transit, "Service-Connected Veterans - Disabled veterans can ride fixed route buses free with their service-connected VA identification card. Must present card at time of ride." The county's transportation listings also include paratransit (Handi-Wheels, (701) 232-3231, booked before noon the day before), the Fargo VA medical center's own free VA/VTS van ((701) 239-3700 ext 4506, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. booking, rides 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays) and the metro senior rides.
This is the county's everyday transit benefit rather than a veterans program: no application, no enrollment. Board with the card.
