Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Michigan county clerks record discharges and keep them confidential (MCL 35.31 to 35.35; see the Michigan entry). What Cass's page says: the Clerk/Register's list of what the office issues runs from assumed business names and birth certificates through "Veteran discharge records". The officeholder: "Monica McMichael, Clerk Register", 120 N. Broadway, Suite 200, Cassopolis, MI 49031; (269) 445-4464, fax (269) 445-4406. The fee. The Clerk's fee schedule carried in the June 18, 2026 agenda packet prices "Veteran I.D. cards 10.00" - the county clerk's own veteran photo ID, beside the corrected-death-certificate and CPL-fingerprint lines - so a Cass veteran who wants the county's card brings the discharge to Suite 200 and pays the ten dollars; the recording itself takes no fee under the statute.
