Carson County Veterans Services: No County Officer or Veterans Page

Carson County keeps no veterans service officer: its site has no veterans page and its 2026-2027 budget no veterans department or line; TexVet's county list sends Carson County's veterans to the Texas Veterans Commission (Dallas office, 214-857-0444), whose claims counselors help any veteran free, and the County Judge's office in Panhandle (806-537-3622) is the county's general contact.

Also called: VSO, CVSO, Veterans Service Officer, Texas Veterans Commission, TVC, 214-857-0444, County Judge, Dan Looten, 806-537-3622, 434.032, Panhandle, Groom, White Deer, Skellytown.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

No county officer. Carson County's site - its menus and department pages - has no veterans page and names no veterans service officer, and the 2026-2027 budget (filed August 24, 2026) has no veterans department or line; its Social Services department ($214,630) pays indigent legal fees, indigent burials and welfare, and grants to the High Plains Food Bank, Panhandle Community Services, the Tralee Crisis Center and the Texas Panhandle mental health authority, none for veterans. A county of under 200,000 people is not required to keep an officer (Government Code 434.032; see the Texas entry). No agenda of September 2025 to October 2026 names a veterans officer. Where to file a claim. TexVet's county list gives, for Carson, the "Texas Veterans Commission Dallas Office" at (214) 857-0444. The Commission's claims counselors help any veteran free (see the Texas entry); ask it for its nearest counselor, since Dallas is far from Panhandle. For county matters the general contact is the County Judge's office, Judge Dan Looten, PO Box 369, Panhandle, 806-537-3622 ([email protected]). The County and District Clerk records discharges (see carson-tx-county-clerk-discharges).
