Caroline County Disabled Veteran Real Estate Tax Exemption, Ten Acres
Caroline County’s Commissioner of the Revenue takes the statewide home exemption on up to ten acres, because its elderly relief covers ten, for a veteran rated 100% permanent and total, including through individual unemployability. Its information sheet still quotes the pre-2019 rule tying a surviving spouse to the same home, and a cut to one acre is under study for 2027.
Also called: property tax, real estate tax, Bowling Green, Ladysmith, 100% disabled, TDIU, ten acres, surviving spouse.
For: Veteran or service member, survivor.

Thresholds
| Gate | Rule |
|---|---|
| 100% permanent and total | Caroline County applies the statewide exemption to the house and up to ten acres in 2026. It accepts individual unemployability. It does not add an income test. One path is a VA rating of 100% that is service-connected, permanent, and total. |
| Permanent and total on the 100% path | The 100% rating has to be permanent and total. A 100% rating VA has not made permanent does not meet this path. |
| Individual unemployability | The other path is a total disability rating based on individual unemployability that VA has also rated permanent and total. |
| Permanent and total on the unemployability path | Individual unemployability qualifies on this path only when VA has rated the disability permanent and total. |
