Canyon County Assessor: Veterans Property Tax Benefit

Canyon County publishes no dedicated veteran benefit page, so the State rule governs: a 100% service-connected veteran applies at the county assessor between January 1 and April 15 for up to $1,500 off the tax on the home and one acre, on a VA letter; the assessor's office in Caldwell answers at its exemptions counter.

Also called: property tax, 63-705A, $1,500, April 15, Assessor, Caldwell, Nampa, veteran benefit.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The benefit is State law, Idaho Code 63-705A, administered with the State Tax Commission; the Idaho entry on it sets out the rating test, the survivor rule and the application window. Canyon County's Assessor takes the application at its exemptions counter in Caldwell. What the State says. "County assessors and the Tax Commission manage this program." "You must apply between January 1 and April 15, 2027, for a reduction to 2027 property taxes. If your disability is permanent and total, you don't need to reapply each year." The benefit can cut the bill by as much as $1,500 for a 100% service-connected veteran. What the county publishes. The Assessor's exemptions page covers the homeowners and homestead programmes but has no veteran benefit section, so the figures and deadline here are the State's; confirm the office hours and any local form with the Assessor. The county's Property Tax Reduction (circuit breaker) page, which does name veterans, is in the next entry.
