Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor entity on the town’s site prints the veteran procedures in its FAQs: a veteran not yet receiving the exemption files the DD-214 with the Town Clerk’s Office by September 30 for that October 1 grand list, and a veteran disabled in combat presents a recent letter from the Veterans Administration indicating the disability percentage for the increased exemption. The State Additional Veteran’s Exemption is applied for February 1 through October 1 of any given year, on proof of all income for the calendar year preceding the filing period, with Social Security benefits excluded for a veteran rated 100 percent through the Administration. The Active Duty Vehicle Exemption is applied for on the town’s form no later than December 31 following the property tax due date, annually. The page’s Staff & Contacts names Assessor Kayla Johnson, CCMA I, and OPM’s Municipal Assessor Directory records her as well. The town’s Book of Ordinances (2022) carries no veterans’ exemption, and OLR’s 2023 survey recorded Canaan as offering no municipal option. The wartime exemption is $1,000 of assessed value under 12-81(19), with the 12-81g(a) additional exemption of twice that for income within the 12-81l limit; ask the assessor.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
