Camden County Board of Assessors and Tax Commissioner: Disabled Veterans Homestead Exemption

Camden County's Board of Assessors grants the State's disabled veterans homestead exemption - the greater of $32,500 or the current specially adapted housing maximum - on the home a qualifying disabled veteran or an unremarried surviving spouse owns and occupies as of January 1; the Assessors' page prints the 2025 amount as $121,812 and the Tax Commissioner's page a stale $85,645, so the State entry's current figure governs. 912-576-3241.

Also called: disabled American veterans, homestead exemption, 121,812, 85,645, 126,526, property tax, surviving spouse, ad valorem, Woodbine, Kingsland, St. Marys, Kings Bay, White Oak, Harriett’s Bluff.

For: Veteran or service member, child, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemption is the State's, under Code section 48-5-48; see the Georgia entry. Camden County's Tax Assessor: "Disabled American Veterans. For 2025, this homestead exemption is available to certain disabled veterans in an amount of $121,812. This exemption applies to all ad valorem tax levies, however, it is restricted to certain types of very serious disabilities and proof of disability - either from the Veterans Administration or from a private physician in certain circumstances." The page adds the occupancy rule - the owner must "own and occupy their residence as of January 1st of each taxable year", on the primary residence and no more than five contiguous acres. The Tax Commissioner's Types of Exemptions page still prints the older amounts: "Disabled American Veterans ... in an amount of $85,645", and "Un-Remarried Surviving Spouse Exemption Amount: $85,645 from all ad valorem taxes levied, if such person's spouse, who as a member of the armed forces of the United States, was killed or died as a result of any war armed conflict", with documents from the Secretary of Defense. The current federal maximum governs: the State entry carries it. The Tax Commissioner's own walk-through at the Board's September 15, 2026 meeting (also in the October 6, 2026 agenda): "If you are a 100% disabled veteran, that goes up to $126,000 a year in exemption. So all of our disabled veteran exemptions, if their home is valued less than $315,000 of fair market value, they're not paying any taxes at all. We have a couple of thousands of those particular individuals in the county." Questions go to the Assessors Office at 912-576-3241.
