Also called: burial allowance, death benefit, funeral, headstone, grave marker, lettering, Act 154, 16 Pa.C.S. 15509, 15513, flags.

For: Veteran or service member, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The duties are the State's, under 16 Pa.C.S. Chapter 155; see the Pennsylvania entry on county burial and grave benefits, which gives the statutory amounts and the one-year filing rule. Burial. Cambria posts the State's forms: the "Application for Burial Expenses for Deceased Service Person" (Act 154 of 2018), with the personal representative's or next of kin's affidavit, the undertaker's affidavit, the Director of Veterans Affairs' certification and the commissioners' authorisation, and a separate form for the widow of a deceased veteran. Headstones. Its headstone application asks for "the erection... of a (circle memorial desired): Headstone - Bronze Memorial Tablet - Lettering on Existing Memorial - Base for Government Headstone - Cenotaph", certified by the County Veteran Director and approved by the commissioners for a veteran with legal residence in the county. The form still cites section 426 of the General County Code of 1929 and a $50 limit; 16 Pa.C.S. 15513, which replaced it in 2024, governs, so ask the office for the current amount. Flags. The office distributes U.S. flags and holders to veterans organisations for placement on veterans' graves. Call 814-472-1590. The forms are read from Internet Archive captures of 2024 because the county's site refuses automated fetches.
