What it is. An Arkansas county veterans service officer is employed by the county judge and paid from the Quorum Court's budget, trained and accredited through the Department of Veterans Affairs, and partly reimbursed by the State under section 20-81-106: one dollar for every two the county spends, up to $3,600 a year, or $4,800 in a county with more than 2,500 veterans, plus $500 a quarter each for VA accreditation and for access to VA's benefits system; see the Arkansas entry on the Department and county service officers. Help with a claim is free. Who and when. The county's Veteran's Service Office page: "Open 8:30 to 3:00 Tuesday and Wednesday, 315 Hunt St, Hampton, AR, 870-798-2054"; it names no officer. The Department of Veterans Affairs' county finder (last updated August 19, 2026) lists Raymond Buzbee at P.O. Box 566, 315 Hunt St., Hampton, AR 71744, (870) 798-2054, [email protected], Tuesday and Wednesday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; the county's shorter hours are the safer guide. Calhoun is in the Department's District 5, whose District Veterans Service Officer is Sue Harper in Monticello, (870) 623-6900. The County Judge, Floyd Nutt, is at 309 W. Main St., Hampton, (870) 798-4818. The budget. Calhoun's 2026 Final Budget gives department 0800, Veteran Service Officer, $28,012.24 in the County General fund: $12,324.43 in part-time salary with matching ($13,362.24 in personal services), $5,500 in supplies (food included) and $9,150 in other charges, among them the office phone, travel, meals and software. A separate Veteran's Memorial Fund carries nothing for 2026. The veterans court. None: the Thirteenth Circuit's plan for 2026 and 2027 names no veterans court and gives Calhoun no drug court, and the Judiciary's veterans treatment court map does not shade Calhoun.
