Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Recording. The Butler County Recorder, 130 High Street, second floor, Hamilton, records an original or certified copy of a discharge and gives certified copies at no cost, keeps discharges in a secure area, and releases them only to authorized parties under Revised Code 317.24; see the Ohio entry on county recorders. The ID card. A veteran who records the discharge there and shows two forms of identification, one with a photograph, from the list in 317.241 (which includes the discharge record itself), gets a free veteran ID card, valid ten years, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays. It shows the photograph, branch, address and recording details, and replaces carrying the DD-214. A list of businesses giving veteran discounts goes with it. The Veterans Service Commission requires the card for its dental programme. The Recorder's description matches the statute; it sets no discharge test of its own, and the statute bars the card only for a dishonorable discharge.
