Butler County Auditor: Disabled Veteran Homestead Exemption and the Local Option
Butler County doubled every homestead credit, the disabled veteran's included, for tax year 2025 and did not renew it for 2026. New applicants must file by October 23, 2026 to share in the State's one-time 2026 relief. The Auditor's page leaves out the unemployability route and still gives the 2025 figure.
Also called: homestead, property tax, DTE 105I, county auditor, local option homestead, piggyback, 319.304, House Bill 479, one-time relief, unemployability.
The exemption is the State's, under Revised Code 323.152(A)(2); see the Ohio entry. The Butler County Auditor, 130 High Street, third floor, Hamilton (513-887-3154), takes DTE 105I online through SmartFile or by mail, by December 31.
The local option. House Bill 96 let each board of county commissioners add a county homestead credit equal to the State one, without State reimbursement (Revised Code 319.304). Butler County's commissioners adopted it for tax year 2025, paid in 2026, so a disabled veteran on the programme received the credit twice on those bills. They did not renew it for tax year 2026 by the June 30, 2026 deadline, pointing to the State's one-time relief that year.
This year's deadline. House Bill 479 gives every home with a homestead exemption for tax year 2026 a one-time share of the State's Property Tax Relief Fund on the first-half bill in early 2027; the Auditor estimates about $500 a home. Current recipients get it automatically; a new applicant must apply by October 23, 2026.
Where the page falls short. It lists "Disabled Veterans with a 100% service related disability" and their surviving spouses, at $58,000. Section 323.151(F) also counts a veteran paid at the 100% rate for individual unemployability, who should file DTE 105I with the unemployability decision, and the tax year 2026 figure is $59,400.
