Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The office. The Butler County Veterans Service Office is at 451 N. 5th Street, David City, NE 68632 (the courthouse), phone 402-367-7472, [email protected]. The Veterans Service Officer is Erin M. Robinson. The county's page calls it "a County agency required by State statute and funded by the County", whose mission is "to provide assistance and support to veterans residing in Butler County, their spouses, widows, family members, and dependent children at the County, State, and Federal level", and lists county veterans aid (see that entry), burial benefits, survivor benefits and the State's Nebraska Veterans Aid. Hours. On July 6, 2026, at the written request of the Veterans Service Office Board, the Board of Supervisors changed the office's hours from Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to Tuesday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., which the county's page now shows ("Closed Mondays"); the State's directory (updated October 26, 2026) still gives Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Homestead certification. The Assessor's homestead FAQ, under "How do I qualify as a Disabled Veteran or their Widow?", lists the exemptions for a veteran totally disabled by a non-service-connected illness or accident, each "(annual certification required)", and sends the veteran to the Veterans Service Office first for a physician's form and the office's certification. The application under section 77-3508 is annual, but 77-3508(1)(c) says the medical certification need not be repeated when the condition has not changed, though the assessor may ask for it again (see the Nebraska entries). The money. The final 2025-2026 budget gives the office (0100-803 Veteran's Service) $55,578.90, against $44,741.31 spent in 2024-2025, including $2,365.00 for grave markers and flags ($2,308.15 spent in 2024-2025). The claims paid CenTec Cast Metal $1,672.83 for bronze markers, marker stakes and flags on October 20, 2025 and $1,926.62 for bronze markers on May 18, 2026.
