Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

What the county spends. Burt County's budget summary lists no veterans aid fund, and its 2026-2027 hearing notice none either. The general fund's miscellaneous budget (0100-970) carries a "Veterans Aid Costs" line: $1,700.00 spent in 2023-2024, nothing in 2024-2025 against $6,000.00 budgeted, and $6,000.00 budgeted for 2025-2026. The claims of November 26, 2025 paid the "Burt County Service Fund" $1,800.00 for "Veterans Funds". Neither the Veterans Services page nor any posted record says how the committee pays aid; ask the office, (402) 374-2920. Who qualifies. Section 80-102 lets the county veterans service committee aid a veteran, a spouse, a surviving spouse or a minor child in need. Since LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) the veteran need only have served, been discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions) or died in service, and lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county; there is no wartime test. See the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
