Where and when. "The Veterans Services office is located inside of the Burke Senior Center Building," 501 N. Green Street, Morganton, NC 28655 (mail P.O. Box 219, Morganton, NC 28680); 828-764-9400. Tuesday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed for lunch 1:30 to 2:30; the page gives Mondays as "9am - 6am", which is a misprint, so call before a Monday visit. "Satellite Office available at the East Burke Senior Center (101 Main Ave West, Hildebran NC) on the 2nd and 3rd Fridays each month from 8:30am-12:30pm."
The Board's year. In December 2025 the Commissioners accepted a $20,000 grant from the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs that "will support Veterans Services through wellness activities, community outreach, and educational initiatives". On April 20, 2026 they adopted Resolution No. 2026-06 creating the Burke County Veterans Services Board, an unpaid advisory board of five appointed veterans or active-duty members not dishonourably discharged, with the Veterans Services Officer as a non-voting member, and on June 15, 2026 added a seat for the Board's chairman (Resolution No. 2026-17). The manager's recommended FY 2026-27 budget, which the Board adopted on June 15, 2026, carries Veteran Services at $87,076 (against $68,083 spent in FY 2024-25). The Board adopted the Operation Green Light resolution on October 20, 2025.
Also in Morganton. DAV Chapter 43 told the Board in September 2026 that its trained volunteer service officers help veterans with VA claims on Saturdays and that it started the county's first women veterans group in 2026; that is the chapter's service, not the county's.
