Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Georgia's disabled-veteran homestead exemption is O.C.G.A. 48-5-48 and the killed-service-member spouse's is 48-5-52.1; the State entries carry the statutes, the qualification list and the index the Secretary of Veterans Affairs sets. What Bulloch's Tax Commissioner's own page adds is the county's posting of the amounts and the office that takes the application. The page, "Homestead Exemption for Disabled Veteran or Surviving Spouse": "Any qualifying disabled veteran may be granted an exemption of $117,014 (2024 amount-subject to change each year per Ga. D.O.R.) from paying property taxes for state, county, municipal, and school purposes. The assessed value of the property in excess of this exemption remains taxable. This exemption is extended to the unremarried surviving spouse or minor children as long as they continue to occupy the home as a residence. (O.C.G.A. 48-5-48)" and "Homestead Exemption for Surviving Spouse of U.S. Service Member: The unremarried surviving spouse of a member of the armed forces who was killed in or died as a result of any war or armed conflict will be granted a homestead exemption from all ad valorem taxes for state, county, municipal and school purposes in the amount of $117,014. The surviving spouse will continue to be eligible for the exemption as long as they do not remarry. (O.C.G.A. 48-5-52.1)." The GDVS's own page carries the up-to amount for 2025, $121,812 (38 U.S.C. 2102's index), so the county's posted 2024 figure moves yearly (see the Georgia entry on the exemption amounts).
