Bullitt County PVA: Homestead Exemption for Totally Disabled Owners

The Bullitt County PVA, 149 North Walnut Street, Shepherdsville (502-543-7480), takes the homestead exemption for an owner classified totally disabled by a federal programme, the VA included, on Form 62A350 or a paperless form in its property search; its page still gives the 2023-2024 amount and says proof is due every year, while the statute spares a service-connected totally disabled veteran the yearly filing.

Also called: homestead exemption, disability exemption, PVA, Clint Mattingly, 62A350, paperless, KRS 132.810, Section 170, total disability, 502-543-7480, Shepherdsville, Mount Washington, Hillview, Lebanon Junction, Pioneer Village, Hebron Estates, Brooks, Fox Chase.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemption is the State's (Section 170 of the Kentucky Constitution and KRS 132.810); the Kentucky entry explains it and gives the 2025-2026 amount of $49,100. What the PVA's page says. "The Homestead Exemption (based on age or disability status) allows taxpayers who are at least 65 years of age or who are totally disabled to receive an exemption." The owner must "both own and maintain the property as his or her personal residence as of January 1st" and "have been classified as totally disabled under a program authorized or administered by an agency* of the United States Government, or any retirement system ... on January 1st for the year in which the application is made and maintain the disability classification through December 31st", and "must be receiving disability payments pursuant to that disability classification". Its footnote names "the Veterans Administration" among the programmes. Two things on the page are out of date. It says "The exemption for 2023 and 2024 is $46,350"; the amount for 2025 and 2026 is $49,100, and its FAQ still gives the 2021-2022 figure of $40,500. And its FAQ says "a taxpayer needs to provide proof of his or her disability status every year"; KRS 132.810(2)(d)2.a excuses "a service-connected totally disabled veteran of the United States Armed Forces" from reapplying, so a veteran rated totally disabled for service files once. Say so when filing, and keep the VA letter to hand. How to apply. Either the paperless form ("Use the Property Search feature under QuickLinks, search for your property and click on the blue 'Homestead Deduction Form'") or the Department of Revenue's Form 62A350, emailed, mailed or brought to the office "along with documentation verifying age"; for the disability exemption, "documentation verifying total disability and that payments have been issued throughout the entire year must follow", which for a veteran is the VA's benefit summary letter. Where. Bullitt County PVA (Clint Mattingly), 149 North Walnut Street, 2nd Floor, Shepherdsville, KY 40165; 502-543-7480, fax 502-543-8690; Monday to Friday 8 to 4, Thursday to 6. Taxes are billed and collected by the Sheriff, not the PVA.
