Broomfield Assessor: Disabled Veteran Property Tax Exemption

Broomfield's Assessor, One DesCombes Drive (303-464-5819), takes the State's disabled veteran exemption, half the first $200,000 of the home's value, with a July 1 deadline in 2026 and July 15 from 2027 under Senate Bill 26-046; its page describes the test as 100% permanent and total only, leaving out individual unemployability, which the State added for 2025.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemption is the State's (C.R.S. 39-3-201 to 39-3-208; see the Colorado entry): half of the first $200,000 of the actual value of the home, at a 100% permanent and total rating or, since Amendment G (tax year 2025), individual unemployability; a surviving spouse and a Gold Star spouse have their own applications. What the page says. The Property Tax Exemption and Deferral Programs page: the exemption "is available to applicants who: sustained a service-connected disability while serving on active duty in the Armed Forces, were honorably discharged, and were rated by the Department of Veterans Affairs at 100% 'permanent and total' disabled, and owned and occupied the home as his or her primary residence since January 1 of the year of application", with the application and instructions to print. The Assessor's dates list "July 1 - Veterans with a disability applications must be completed and returned to the Assessor"; the surviving spouse application is also due July 1 and "is available from the Division of Veterans Affairs or the county assessor". What it leaves out. Individual unemployability now qualifies; C.R.S. 39-3-202 asks for separation under honorable conditions, not an honorable discharge as such; a late application can be accepted for good cause to August 1 (C.R.S. 39-3-206); and Senate Bill 26-046 moves the deadlines to July 15 and August 15 from the 2027 filing season (its sections 8 and 9 take effect January 1, 2027). The same page gives the senior exemption's deadline as July 15. Once granted, the exemption carries over. The office. Assessor Jay Yamashita, City and County Building, One DesCombes Drive, Broomfield; 303-464-5819; [email protected].
