Bridgewater Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Bridgewater’s assessing pages print no clause 22 amount, so this entry gives the statute’s; the town has accepted the veterans’ voluntary tax work-off of section 5N, worth up to $1,500 a year.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Bridgewater.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Bridgewater grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessing Department’s applications-and-forms page posts the state’s statutory exemption application and its abatement forms, and no amount of its own; the figures here are the statute’s, and no clause 22I or 22J acceptance was found on the town’s site or in its records. The town’s SAVE & Veterans Programs page records its acceptance of G.L. c. 59, s. 5N: a veterans’ voluntary tax work-off paid at the Commonwealth’s minimum wage, capped at $1,500 off the tax bill in a year, which a household may not combine with the seniors’ section 5K work-off, and which a qualifying owner may work in part or through a proxy. Earned reductions are applied to the actual tax bills for the fiscal year. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Bridgewater Veterans Services. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
