Brewster Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Brewster’s Real Estate Exemptions page posts an instruction letter, the Commonwealth’s Form 96-4 and the Department of Revenue’s guide with no amount of the town’s own, so this entry gives the statute’s; its site has no veterans’ services page, so the entry points at the directory, whose Brewster row names the Cape Cod District’s Gregory Quilty.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Brewster.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Brewster grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Board of Assessors’ page names Susan Barker the chair (term ends June 30, 2027), Marjorie McGinnis the vice chair (2028) and Amy Harbeck the clerk (2027), an appointed three-member board, and the Real Estate Exemptions page’s veterans’ instruction letter is over the signature of James M. Gallagher, M.A.A., Deputy Assessor, at Town Hall, 2198 Main Street (508-896-3701, extension 1237). For fiscal 2027 the page posts, for veterans, that instruction letter, the Commonwealth’s Form 96-4 and the Department of Revenue’s generic Taxpayer’s Guide to Local Property Tax Exemptions: no amount of the town’s own on any of them, and no acceptance of clause 22I or 22J named anywhere on the town’s site, so the figures here are the statute’s. The town’s site has no veterans’ services page - its Veteran Resources page is cemetery and memorial work, VA Form 40-1330 medallions and burials - so this entry points at the directory itself, which lists the Cape Cod District Department of Veterans’ Services on the Brewster row: Gregory Quilty at 100 Oak Street, Harwich (508-778-8740, [email protected]). The district’s own capevets.org answers a Cloudflare challenge that does not clear to curl or the automated browser alike (issue #409). Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Brewster Veterans’ Agent: Cape Cod District (Gregory Quilty). Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

GateRule
A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
