Brazoria Central Appraisal District: Disabled Veteran and Surviving Spouse Exemptions

The Brazoria Central Appraisal District takes the 100% disabled veteran homestead exemption, at a 100% rating or individual unemployability paid at 100%, and the partial exemption on its online or paper forms. Its pages leave out the surviving spouse's right to move the exemption, the line-of-duty and PACT Act spouse exemptions, and the five-year late filing window.

The exemptions are the State's; the Texas entries explain them. The Brazoria Central Appraisal District grants them for property in Brazoria County. How to apply. A veteran awarded 100% compensation, with a 100% rating or individual unemployability paid at 100%, uses the homestead application (form 50-114, online or on paper), not the separate disabled veteran form. Every other disabled veteran or survivor uses the disabled veteran application (form 50-135) for the partial exemption under section 11.22, which sits on any one property. Paper forms go to the District by mail. The driver's licence or State ID must show the homestead's address. A veteran moving the exemption from another county brings that district's exemption proration letter. What the pages say. The District's disabled veterans page (last changed March 2024) and homestead page (June 2025) describe the 100% exemption and the continuation for an unmarried surviving spouse whose home it was when the veteran died, and send readers to the Comptroller for the rest. What they leave out. - Moving. Section 11.131 lets the surviving spouse carry the exemption's dollar amount to a later homestead; the pages describe only the same home. - The line-of-duty spouse. Section 11.133 exempts the homestead of the surviving spouse of a member killed or fatally injured in the line of duty. The pages do not describe it, though form 50-114 has a box for it. - PACT Act deaths. Section 11.136, in force from the 2026 tax year, exempts the homestead of the surviving spouse of a veteran who died of a condition the PACT Act presumes service-connected; the Comptroller's form 50-114 revised in October 2025 has a box for it. The District's forms page links both that revision and a 2024 copy; use the newer one. - Late filing. Section 11.439 requires the chief appraiser to accept a disabled veteran's application under section 11.131 or 11.132 up to five years after the delinquency date, as form 50-114 itself says.
