Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Branford’s Veteran’s Benefits page gives the regular veteran’s exemption to a veteran with at least 90 days of wartime service and an honorable discharge, on a DD-214 filed with the Town Clerk before October 1, and the disability exemptions to veterans who file the VA rating slip with the assessor. It prints no amounts for either. The page’s Additional Veteran’s Exemptions section gives an additional benefit to veterans with incomes lower than $57,700 single or $67,600 married, describing it as equal to twice the amount and filed every two years. Those limits are above the state’s current 12-81l amounts of $46,300 and $56,500, which the state additional exemption under 12-81g uses; ask the assessor what applies. The page’s Local Option Veterans Tax Exemption, which it says the town amended in December 2004, requires a DD-214 in the town clerk’s office, qualification under 12-81(19) and (22), and qualification by income counted from the federal return plus Social Security, applied for in person between February 1 and October 1. A veteran’s surviving spouse who qualifies under 12-81(22), the surviving-spouse subdivision of the exemption statutes, may apply under the town’s option as well. No amount is printed, and Branford’s code is on no host that could be read; OLR’s 2023 survey records that Branford did not respond. Ask the assessor.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
