Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

What the page says. The CVA fund "is a temporary emergency fund to assist veterans, their spouses, and dependents when there is an unforeseen emergency and there are no other resources available." The page's test: service in the Armed Forces, an honorable discharge, a year in Nebraska and six months in Box Butte County, and registration with the Box Butte County Veterans Service Office. "There is a $1,000 lifetime cap for the veteran and their household." Aid may be asked for food, shelter, clothing, funeral, medical, dental, utilities, transport and surgical items, by application through the office, and the veteran "must adequately demonstrate an 'inability'" to pay. Against the statute. The page prints no wartime test, but it names only an honorable discharge; since LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) section 80-102 reaches a veteran discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions), or who died in service, and a spouse, surviving spouse or minor child in need. The $1,000 lifetime cap and the registration rule are the county's practice; the statute sets neither. What the fund holds. Fund 1900, Veterans Aid, levies no tax; it is filled by transfers from the general fund - $3,028.13 in 2023-2024, $2,458.50 in 2024-2025 and $1,204.51 in 2025-2026 - and spent nothing in any of those years, growing from $12,266.60 on July 1, 2023 to $18,957.74 on July 1, 2026. The 2025-2026 transfer, Resolution 2026-08 of June 17, 2026, was "for 8,030.1 miles@ $.15 per mile driven June 1, 2025 through June 1, 2026"; the minutes do not say whose miles. The 2026-2027 budget proposes a $1,200 transfer and $20,157.74 available. Apply through the Veterans Service Office, (308) 762-4154. See the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
