Boulder County Assessor: Veteran Related Exemptions
The Boulder County Assessor takes the State's exemption for a veteran with a 100% permanent service-connected disability, the surviving spouse, and the Gold Star spouse, on a home owned and lived in since January 1. The 2026 deadline was July 1; 2027 applications open January 1, 2027 and are due July 15, 2027 under Senate Bill 26-046 ([email protected]).
Also called: property tax, disabled veteran exemption, Referendum E, Gold Star spouse, July 1, July 15, SB26-046, Assessor, Boulder, Longmont.
The exemption is the State's, from the 2006 Referendum E amendment to the Colorado Constitution; the Colorado entry explains the amount (half of the first $200,000 of actual value). Boulder County's Assessor: it "extends the existing property tax exemption for qualifying seniors to any U.S. military veteran who has 100% permanent service-connected disability." The veteran must "have owned and occupied the home as his or her primary residence since Jan. 1 of the year of application."
Spouses. "The exemption is extended to the surviving spouse of a qualifying veteran with a disability", and since 2022 to "surviving spouses of Gold Star Veterans"; both apply to the Assessor "no later than July 1."
When. "The deadline to apply for tax year 2026 has passed. The Assessor's Office will begin accepting 2027 applications after Jan. 1, 2027." To be put on the mailing list, email [email protected] with the property address.
The 2027 deadline. The page's "no later than July 1" was the law for 2026. Senate Bill 26-046 moves the veteran and spouse deadline in C.R.S. 39-3-205(1)(b) to July 15 and the late deadline in 39-3-206(2)(a.7), for a veteran who shows the Assessor good cause, from August 1 to August 15; both changes take effect January 1, 2027, so 2027 applications are due July 15, 2027.
Where the page is narrower than the law. The State exemption also takes a veteran rated for individual unemployability (see the Colorado entry and the Larimer County entry, whose Assessor says so); Boulder's page names only the 100% permanent rating, so a veteran paid at the total rate for unemployability should apply and cite the State law.
