Blount County Trustee: Disabled Veteran Property Tax Relief
Blount County's Trustee takes the state's disabled veteran property tax relief applications in Maryville, and describes the veteran relief as for certain service-connected totally and permanently disabled veterans, naming no route that needs no rating. The county adds no supplement of its own. The 2026 county rate is $1.29 per $100.
Also called: property tax, tax relief, Trustee, 67-5-704, 67-5-701(j), tax freeze, $38,470, $1.29, Maryville, Scott Graves.
Tennessee's disabled veteran property tax relief is a state payment toward the tax on the first $175,000 of a home's value; the Tennessee entries set out the rules. In Blount County the Trustee takes the applications at 347 Court Street, third floor, Maryville (865-273-5900); Scott Graves is the Trustee. The state's application deadline for the 2026 tax year is April 5, 2027. Blount County adds no county money to the state payment: no resolution adopting a local match under 67-5-701(j) appears in the Commission's records, and the Trustee's page names none.
Where the Trustee's page narrows the law. It describes the veteran relief as available to "certain service connected totally and permanently disabled veterans, or widows of certain service connected totally and permanently disabled veterans that were eligible for the rebate or killed in action". Section 67-5-704(b) also covers a veteran with paraplegia or permanent paralysis of both legs and the lower body, legal blindness, or the loss or loss of use of two or more limbs from a service-connected cause at any rating, and a former prisoner of war rated one hundred percent; a veteran with a qualifying loss and a lower combined rating should apply. The state's veteran relief has no income test; the $38,470 limit the page names is the elderly and disabled homeowner route, which is separate and accepts veterans' benefits as income only under that route.
The tax rate and the discounts. The Commission's FY 2026-27 tax levy resolution (26-06-001, adopted June 18, 2026) sets the county rate at $1.29 per $100 of assessed value, $0.57 of it for general county purposes. The Trustee gives a 2% discount for paying by the end of October and 1% through November, and taxes are delinquent March 1. A tax freeze for homeowners 65 or older, which the Commission approved for Blount County in December 2007, holds the county tax at the amount of the year the homeowner joins, with an income limit of $63,470 set by the state; it is applied for annually with the same April 5 deadline.

Permanent and total, as VA determines it
The state relief; Blount County adds no county supplement. The rating route in 67-5-704(b)(3) asks for service-connected permanent and total disability as determined by VA, which a veteran paid at the total rate through unemployability that VA has found permanent also holds. It is recorded rather than enforced because the paraplegia, blindness and loss-of-limbs route and the prisoner of war route need no rating at all.
Or a named loss, at any rating
Paraplegia or permanent paralysis of both legs and the lower body, legal blindness, or loss or loss of use of two or more limbs from a service-connected cause qualifies whatever the combined rating, as does one hundred percent permanent total disability from having been a prisoner of war. The state entry on disabled veteran property tax relief sets out the routes.
