Beverly Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Beverly’s fiscal 2027 exemption sheet gives $423 a year for the disabled-veteran clauses, the statute’s $400 indexed by the Department of Revenue’s fiscal 2026 and 2027 cost-of-living adjustments, with full exemption for a paraplegic veteran and up to double the allowed amount for statutory exemptions depending on how much the tax bill increased from the previous year.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Beverly.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The City of Beverly grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a city can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessors’ “Eligibility for Statutory Personal Exemptions, Fiscal Year 2027” sheet gives “Disabled Veterans (Clauses 22, 22A, 22B, 22C, 22D, 22E, Paraplegic) - Exemption Amount: $423 per year”. $423 is the statute’s $400 raised by the Department of Revenue’s clause 22I adjustments for fiscal 2026 and 2027 (2.9 and 2.7 per cent), as Boston’s $423 is; the sheet names no clause or vote, and none was found in the city’s records, so ask the assessors for the amount under any clause other than 22. The same sheet gives $239 under clause 17D and $1,000 under clause 41C, above the statute’s $175 and $500, which a clause 17 cost-of-living acceptance and the clause 41C increase options can produce; it names none. Its general requirements add: “The City allows up to double the allowed amount for statutory exemptions depending on how much their tax bill increased from the previous year”. The sheet’s residence test for the veteran clauses is the current one: six months’ Massachusetts domicile before entering service, or residence since July 1 of the year before filing, and only a sufficient beneficial interest is asked of a veteran. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Beverly Veterans Services. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
