Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor’s Veteran Exemption Programs flyer, in the town’s document center, prints the basic exemption at $1,000 on a DD-214 filed with the Town Clerk by October 1, applied one-time only. The veterans’ additional exemption is “twice their basic exemption (which varies if the veteran is disabled)” at income below $49,100 married and $40,300 single, applied every two years - the flyer’s own figures, the state’s 2023 grand-list limits, three years behind the 2026 grand list’s $56,500 married and $46,300 single, and the flyer itself warns income limits may change every year. The flyer’s veterans’ local option is a $3,000 exemption at income below $64,500 married and $57,300 single, applied every two years, with disability payments counted as income for this program. The code’s taxation chapter carries § 16-16 (Ord. No. 7-91, August 27, 1991), which adopts the specially adapted house exemption of 12-81(21)(C): the dwelling house and lot fully exempt from local property taxation, applied for annually not later than thirty days following the October 1 assessment date.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
