Benton County Assessor: Senior, Disabled and Disabled Veteran Exemption

The Benton County Assessor's exemption application, revised April 27, 2026, still asks a veteran to tick "an 80% service-connected evaluation or compensated at 100% rate". For 2027 taxes the floor is 40%, and Benton's income thresholds rise to $58,000, $67,000 and $77,000.

Also called: property tax, assessor, 84.36.381, senior exemption, disabled veteran exemption, 40 percent, individual unemployability, combined disposable income, deferral, Kennewick, Richland, Tri-Cities.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemption is the State's; the Washington entry explains it. The Benton County Assessor, 620 Market Street, Prosser (509-786-5710), takes the State's application form 64 0002 and lists it on its Tax Relief page. What the form says. The copy posted on October 3, 2026, last modified April 27, 2026, offers the box "I am a veteran with an 80% service-connected evaluation or compensated at 100% rate due to service-connected disability", with a disability determination date. That is right for taxes collected in 2026. The form also asks for VA disability income "for our records" while saying it will not be counted, which matches the statute. What applies from 2027. Chapter 200, Laws of 2025 cut the evaluation needed to 40% for taxes collected in 2027 and after, which turn on the veteran's rating and income in 2026; the 100% rate route, which reaches individual unemployability, stays. For 2027 to 2029 the Department of Revenue sets Benton's thresholds at $58,000, $67,000 and $77,000, with $86,015 for the deferral programme. A veteran rated 40% to 70% should apply for 2027 and ask the Assessor for a form that reflects the 40% floor.
