Belmont Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Belmont’s own fiscal 2026 Property Tax Relief brochure prints the statutes doubled and raised by the fiscal 2026 adjustment - $823 under clause 22 to $3,087 under 22C and $2,058 under 22E, full under 22D, 22F and 22H - what clause 22J at 100 per cent produces, no acceptance named; its Veterans’ Services are the town’s own, Bob Upton the officer at Town Hall, where the directory’s row keeps a street number the page does not print.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Belmont.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Belmont grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessor’s Office at 19 Moore Street, first floor (617-993-2630; Monday 8 am to 7 pm, Tuesday to Thursday 8 to 4, Friday 8 to noon), names Richard Scanlon the Interim Assessor (617-993-2634, [email protected]), where the Property Tax Relief Programs page’s Belmont FY2026 Property Tax Relief Brochure (PDF), dated July 2025 and the latest the page posts, is over the Belmont Board of Assessors’ names: "Daniel Dargon, Chair and Administrative Assessor; Dan Barry, Anthony Leccese", with Jennifer Hewitt, ATA, the Finance Director. The brochure’s veterans table prints $823 under clause 22 for a veteran with a service-connected disability of 10 per cent or more, a Purple Heart recipient or a Gold Star parent, $1,544 under 22A, $2,573 under 22B, $3,087 under 22C and $2,058 under 22E, full under 22D, 22F and 22H - the statutes doubled and raised by the fiscal 2026 adjustment of 2.9 per cent ($800 by 1.029 being $823.20), what clause 22J at 100 per cent produces with a fiscal-2026 first application. The brochure names no acceptance, and its veterans’ residence test asks for Massachusetts residents "for six months prior to entering service or have resided in the commonwealth for 3 years", neither the statute’s two consecutive years before filing nor the pre-HERO Act five, with an April 1, 2026 application deadline; no vote was found on the town’s site, its 2026 Annual Town Meeting pages carrying zoning articles, so the entry asks the assessors to confirm. The Veterans Services Officer page, filed under Community Services, describes the 1946 act that created the office and chapter 115, and names Bob Upton the Veteran’s Services Officer (VSO) at 19 Moore Street, second floor (617-993-2725, fax 617-993-2721), appointed through the Select Board - the officer the EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 Belmont row lists at "10 Moore Street" on the same 617-993-2725 ([email protected]), ask the office which number the door answers. The page’s sidebar records the town’s Purple Heart Community certificate, formally received in 2016, and its Veterans Memorial Park and veterans’ business-discount list; no post of the town’s own is named. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Belmont Veterans Services Officer: Bob Upton. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

GateRule
A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
