Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Bell County Veterans Service Office pays temporary, emergency financial assistance to eligible veterans, surviving spouses and dependents from a grant from the Texas Veterans Commission's Fund for Veterans' Assistance. Funds are limited and approval is not guaranteed. What it can pay. The application (revised September 2026) covers a deposit, rent, mortgage payments and arrears; electric, gas and water bills and arrears; a vehicle loan payment or repair at a licensed shop; and funeral costs, from preparation of remains to interment. What to bring. Paper copies, not screenshots: bank statements for every account for the last 60 days (Cash App, Venmo and the like included); proof of all income for the last 60 days; photo ID for the veteran and spouse; marriage and minor children's birth certificates; and proof of veteran status. A DD-214, NGB-22 or NA Form 13038 is enough alone, and the form also lists honorable, general and other-than-honorable discharge certificates as proof when paired with an ID. A surviving spouse brings the marriage and death certificates and proof of the veteran's status. Each kind of help needs its own documents: the lease, ledger and landlord's W-9 for rent, the bill and any disconnection notice for utilities, an itemized funeral home invoice and the obituary for a funeral. Applications are handled by appointment with the grant administrator, Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., closed noon to 1 p.m. Call 254-933-5915 and press 3.
