What it pays. The county's application to the Texas Veterans Commission (the Commission's "Veteran County Office Funding" grant, for September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2027) describes "limited emergency assistance and financial relief to eligible veterans, their dependents, and surviving spouses who can demonstrate financial need": rent ($10,000 budgeted; up to six months or $6,000 a household), mortgage payments ($10,000; up to six months or $6,000), utilities including internet and the primary user's cell phone ($8,000; up to six months or $3,000), food bought at a grocery store under SNAP rules ($12,000; up to six months), and payments on the household's main vehicle ($5,000 for loan payments and $4,000 for insurance; up to three months or $3,000 each). The county caps help at $2,000 a client and expects to serve 35. The grant is part of the Commission's Fund for Veterans' Assistance (see the Texas entry). Who qualifies. Bee County veterans with an honorable, general (under honorable conditions) or uncharacterized discharge, their dependents and surviving spouses, with financial need shown by documents. How to apply. Call 361-621-1576 or walk in to the Veteran Services Office, 210 E Corpus Christi Street, Beeville; no appointment is needed. Requests are taken first come, first served; the office says it pays within 14 days of finding a person eligible, and follows up within three days if documents are missing. The record. The Court's June 22, 2026 agenda (item 21) asked it to "Approve acceptance of a $50,000 grant from the Texas Veterans Commission to provide financial assistance to Bee County veterans"; the county posts no minutes, so the vote is not on the site.
