Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The South Carolina Commission on Prosecution Coordination's 2026 Directory of Diversion Programs and Treatment Courts (December 8, 2025) lists a Veterans Court for the Fourteenth Circuit, which covers Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper Counties, among the treatment courts the Solicitors' offices operate. See the South Carolina entry on how solicitors run these courts. How these courts work, per the directory: they "are offered to defendants as alternatives to traditional criminal prosecution"; eligibility "is subject to solicitor discretion"; a defendant may participate in each program once; "the average duration of a treatment court program is 12-18 months"; and "when a participant has successfully completed the program, their charges associated with their participation in the program are dismissed," after which the participant "may apply for an expungement of their record so the charges are removed entirely." The circuit's own diversion pages name drug, mental health and intervention courts only and publish no veterans-court page, so the directory is the published record that the program exists; a veteran's route in is the circuit's director of diversion programs, Shannon Horton, 843-779-8477, [email protected], or the SCCPC at (803) 343-0765.
