Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The rules are the State's; see the North Carolina entry on G.S. 47-113.2, which lets the register record discharges and keeps the record open only to the veteran and the people the statute allows, the recording itself free. What the county's Register of Deeds page says of the office: "Our Mission... To accurately record documents that maintain the integrity of the records of Beaufort County, securely collect the proper fees, and provide an effective means for the public to access those records." Its record list: "Some common documents recorded by this office are deeds, mortgages/deeds of trusts, powers of attorney, plats, assumed names, and vital records such as births, deaths, Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) financing statements on personal property, marriages, and military discharges." The public record searches (Real Estate Index, Historical Real Estate Index, Maps, and Vital Records Index) "are now available and can be found at www.beaufortcountyrod.com". The office records Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a 4:45 p.m. cutoff, and its notice under G.S. 132-1.10(g) warns that discharge records are not public record (the page carries the statute's own posting). The Register is Carolyn L. Garris, with Jennifer Taylor the Assistant Register and Darlene Harrison, Tammy Cooper and Stephanie Oglesby the Deputy Registers. Where.
