Baylor County Veterans Services: A Budgeted Officer Line, No Officer Named by the County

Baylor County names no veterans service officer on its site, but its FY 2027 approved budget carries an $8,000 "Veterans Service Officer" line ($4,962.78 spent in FY 2025) and each regular Commissioners Court agenda takes the Veteran's Officer's report; TexVet's county list names Wayne McCallum at 940-574-4700, the Archer County office's number, and the County Judge's office in Seymour (940-889-3553) is the county's general contact.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

What the county posts. Baylor County's site has no veterans page and names no veterans service officer. Its FY 2027 approved budget (October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027, approved September 2, 2026) carries, among the General Fund's non-departmental expenses, line 6040, "Veterans Service Officer", at $8,000, as for FY 2026 ($3,612.42 of it spent by April 30, 2026); the line spent $5,556.81 in FY 2023, $4,994.12 in FY 2024 and $4,962.78 in FY 2025. The line has no salary, payroll tax or retirement beside it, so the county appears to pay its officer as a contractor or by stipend. Every regular Commissioners Court agenda of the year takes departmental reports that include the "Veteran's Officer". A county of under 200,000 people is not required to keep an officer (Government Code 434.032; see the Texas entry). TexVet. TexVet's county list names Wayne McCallum for Baylor at (940) 574-4700, the number of the Archer County Veterans Services Office in Archer City (see archer-tx-veterans-services). On November 10, 2025 the Baylor Court took up an "amended contract with Archer County" whose subject the agenda does not give. No county page read says who Baylor's officer is or where he meets veterans, so call the County Judge's office first. Where no officer is available, the Texas Veterans Commission's claims counselors help any veteran free (see the Texas entry). County contacts. The County Judge's office, Judge Rusty A. Stafford, 109 N. Washington St., Seymour, Texas 76380, 940-889-3553. The County Clerk records discharges (see baylor-tx-county-clerk-discharges).
