Barnstable Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Barnstable’s assessing pages print no veterans’ exemption amounts and its site answers 403 to curl, so this entry gives the statute’s, read through the Internet Archive; its veterans’ agent is the Barnstable District’s Gregory Quilty at 66 Falmouth Road in Hyannis.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Barnstable.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Barnstable grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. barnstable.gov, to which the town’s site has moved, answers 403 to curl and to the automated browser alike, so its Assessing Division and Veterans Services pages were read through the Internet Archive’s captures of May 10 and April 22, 2026. The Assessing Division’s page counts tax exemptions among the office’s work and posts the Commonwealth’s Veteran Application for Statutory Exemption form, with no amount of its own on any page, so the figures here are the statute’s. The town’s Veterans Services page names Gregory Quilty, Major USMC (Ret), the Veterans Services Director of the Barnstable District at 66 Falmouth Road, Hyannis (508-778-8740), where the EOVS directory lists the same officer. The district’s office and its branch offices take the chapter 115 applications and, the page says, serve a veteran population of 21,500 in fifteen communities. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Barnstable District Department of Veterans’ Services: Gregory Quilty, Director. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
