Ayer Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Ayer’s Real Estate Exemptions page posts applications only, its veteran form the Commonwealth’s Form 96-4, so this entry gives the statute’s; its Veteran’s Services Office is the town’s own chapter 115 administrator, Michael Detillion the Veteran’s Services Officer, whose directory phone differs from the page’s extension line.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Ayer.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Ayer grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessing Department names April Iannacone the Assessing Administrator (978-772-8220, extension 140) and Dominic Milton the Assistant Assessor, at Town Hall (fax 978-772-3017), where the elected Board of Assessors’ page seats William Schneider (term expires May 8, 2029) and Nicholas P. Laggis (May 11, 2027) with one seat vacant, its term expiring May 9, 2028. The department’s Real Estate Exemptions page posts applications only - CPA, blind clause 37A, senior, surviving spouses and minor children, and a Veteran Exemption Application that is the Commonwealth’s State Tax Form 96-4, revised November 2016 - with no amount of the town’s own, and no acceptance of clause 22I or 22J was found on the town’s site, so the figures here are the statute’s. The Veteran’s Services page names Michael Detillion the Veteran’s Services Officer (978-772-8220, extension 113), office hours Tuesday 4:30 to 6 pm and Thursday 8:30 am to noon, and says the office "serves the needs of veterans and their dependents, spouses, children, and parents ... including assistance in the preparation of claims for pensions, medical care, and financial assistance", its related documents the chapter 115 statute and a claim application. The EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 row lists Mike Detillion at 1 Main Street on (978) 456-6848 ([email protected]), a number the page does not print, and on the Harvard and Shirley rows too - ask the office which line it answers. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Ayer Veteran’s Services: Michael Detillion, Veteran’s Services Officer. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
