Avon Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

Avon’s tax relief sheet gives a $10,000 local option to veterans of every type and takes the state additional exemption at twice the regular amount, with 2026 grand list income limits of $46,300 single and $56,500 married.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, Avon.

For: Veteran or service member, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor’s Tax Relief and Exemptions sheet for the 2025 grand list sets the regular exemptions at the statutory amounts: $1,000 for 90 days of wartime service under 12-81(19), $2,000 to $3,500 by disability rating under 12-81(20), $10,000 for the loss of two limbs or eyes and $5,000 for the loss of a foot or hand under 12-81(21), and the 12-81(83) dwelling and land exemption of up to two acres. Alongside each it prints a local option of $10,000, which is the additional exemption of 12-81f for every veteran type. For the additional veterans’ exemption of 12-81g the sheet prints income limits of $46,300 single and $56,500 married for the 2026 grand list, $18,000 and $21,000 for a veteran rated 100 percent, and an additional exemption of 200 percent of the regular amount, filed February 1 through October 1. The sheet’s “additional” column also prints half each regular amount, for example $500 beside the $1,000 wartime exemption, without explaining its basis; ask the assessor which figures apply. OLR’s 2023 survey recorded Avon’s wartime local option at $10,000 with income limits of $61,800 married and unmarried, and the town as offering the 12-81(21)(C) adapted-house and 12-81h specially equipped vehicle exemptions and the 12-81kk primary-residence exemption. Avon does not host its code on Municode, and no Avon ordinance was found.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
