The service. Autauga County has run mandatory garbage collection in its unincorporated areas, and in towns that join, since January 1, 2008, under Resolution 2007-05 after the November 7, 2006 referendum; Meridian Waste (1-866-440-3983) collects and bills. The exemption as the county publishes it. The Solid Waste page: "You are eligible for an exemption if your entire household income is from Social Security payments (or disability) only... Residents must apply for the Social Security exemption each year. There is no automatic renewal. Exemption applications are accepted September 1 through November 30 by the Autauga County Health Department." The instructions ask for the last tax return, the last two bank statements, a driver's licence, the last water bill, a notarized affidavit and the application; an approved exemption covers January 1 to December 31 of the next year, and the Health Department mails a renewal form. The affidavit still quotes section 22-27-3(a)(3) as covering a household whose "sole source of income is social security." The veteran route. Act 2026-506, effective October 1, 2026, amended section 22-27-3(a)(3) to add households whose sole source of income is veterans' benefits, at or below the federal poverty level unless the county adopts a resolution reaching higher; see the Alabama entry. The September 1 to November 30, 2026 window is the first in which a veteran-benefit household can apply for 2027. No Commission resolution extending the limit appears in the minutes of October 2025 to October 2026. A household living only on VA compensation, pension, DIC or other veterans' benefits should apply with VA's benefit letters as proof of the source of income and cite the amended statute, since the county's questionnaire lists only Social Security and SSI.
