What it is. An Arkansas county veterans service officer is employed by the county judge and paid from the Quorum Court's budget, trained and accredited through the Department of Veterans Affairs, and partly reimbursed by the State under section 20-81-106: one dollar for every two the county spends, up to $3,600 a year, or $4,800 in a county with more than 2,500 veterans, plus $500 a quarter each for VA accreditation and for access to VA's benefits system; see the Arkansas entry on the Department and county service officers. Help with a claim is free. The county's page: the office "operates under the guidance and standards of the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs" and gives benefits counseling and help preparing, filing and following up federal and State claims; the officer is accredited by the Department, the American Legion and the VFW. Who and when. The county's Veterans Service Office page (edited January 2, 2026): Cheryl Langley Bailey. Hamburg office, 205 E. Jefferson Street, Suite 13, Hamburg, AR 71646, telephone 870-853-2070, fax 870-853-8155, Monday and Tuesday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Wednesday 8:00 a.m. to noon. Crossett office, 303 Main Street, Crossett, AR 71635, telephone 870-364-4207, Wednesday 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Email [email protected] for both; news goes out on the office's Facebook page, @AshleyCountyVeteranServices. The Department of Veterans Affairs' county finder (last updated August 19, 2026) lists the same officer, phones, email and addresses, with hours of Monday and Tuesday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The county's site has since been replaced by a "coming soon" page, so this rests on the Internet Archive's July 2026 copy; call before going in. Ashley is in the Department's District 5, whose District Veterans Service Officer is Sue Harper in Monticello, (870) 623-6900. The County Judge, Jim Hudson, is at 870-853-2000. The Quorum Court. No minutes or budget were posted, so the office's appropriation is not published. The veterans court. None: the Tenth Circuit's plan for 2026 names adult and juvenile drug courts but no veterans court, and the Judiciary's veterans treatment court map does not shade Ashley.
