Armstrong County's Veterans Affairs Office, 450 E. Market Street, Suite 107, Kittanning (724-548-3441), helps veterans and survivors claim federal and Pennsylvania benefits, and handles the county's burial allowance, grave markers and flags, headstone setting and safekeeping of the DD-214; Monday to Thursday 8 to 4:30, closed Fridays.
Also called: director of veterans affairs, county veterans office, Kittanning, Kathy Rashlich, burial allowance, grave markers, DD-214, VTA, real estate tax exemption.
For: Veteran or service member, spouse, child, survivor.
The office is the county's director of veterans affairs under 16 Pa.C.S. Chapter 155; see the Pennsylvania entries. Its page: "The Armstrong County Veterans Affairs Office is an advocate agency established to assist veterans and or their survivors in obtaining benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the state of Pennsylvania... Our purpose is to help veterans and their survivors deal with the often confusing and overwhelming task of completing the correct forms and applications and collecting the appropriate documentation to support a claim for benefits."
What it handles. Federal: service-connected compensation, pension, DIC, death pension and burial benefits. State: Veterans Emergency Assistance, the real estate tax exemption, State veterans homes and the paralyzed veteran's pension. County: "Burial Allowance; Grave Markers and Flags; Government Headstones Set; Safeguard DD-214". The page gives no amount for the burial allowance; the State entry on county burial benefits sets out what 16 Pa.C.S. Chapter 155 requires, and the office is the place to file.
Where. Kathy Rashlich, Executive Director. Courthouse Administration Building, 450 E. Market Street, Suite 107, Kittanning, PA 16201; 724-548-3441, fax 724-548-3732; [email protected].
