Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Arlington grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The assessors’ Real Estate Tax Exemption Programs Chart for fiscal 2027 prints $542.71 under clause 22, $1,007.32 under 22A, $1,696.00 under 22B, $2,035.17 under 22C, a full exemption under 22D and 22F, and $1,356.78 under 22E. The Department of Revenue’s taxpayer guide to the veterans’ exemptions, filled in for Arlington, prints the same four veterans’ amounts. The chart’s Clause 17D line gives $227.50 and its 37A $650, the statutes raised exactly 30 per cent, what section 5C½ at 30 per cent produces, while the veterans’ clauses sit roughly four per cent above that level, which no single option named in the section produces uniformly, and 22A’s ratio to its statute differs from the rest; its 41C line gives $1,300, twice its statute of $500 raised 30 per cent. No town meeting vote was found in the town’s online records, so ask the assessors to confirm the amounts. The town’s site answers 403 to curl and was read in a browser. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Arlington Veterans Services: Robert C. Donovan. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
