Arlington County Disabled Veteran Vehicle Tax Exemption

Arlington exempts one automobile or one pickup from personal property tax for a veteran with a 100% service-connected, permanent, and total disability, including individual unemployability.

Also called: car tax, personal property, vehicle tax, Arlington car tax, TDIU.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Commissioner of Revenue applies the statewide one-vehicle exemption. One automobile or one pickup truck, owned and used primarily by or for the veteran, is exempt from the county personal property tax. A vehicle owned by the spouse qualifies when it is used by or for the veteran. The county form covers a 100% service-connected, permanent, and total disability and a total disability rating, and the form is titled to include individual unemployability. Attach the VA letter that shows the veteran is classified as 100% permanently disabled because of service. If the vehicle changes, the veteran has to apply again. The Commissioner checks the vehicle with DMV. Email the form to [email protected] or mail it to the Commissioner of Revenue. A leased vehicle does not qualify for a personal property tax exemption. This exemption is separate from the state Personal Property Tax Relief Act credit that reduces the tax on ordinary personal-use vehicles.
