Ansonia Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

Ansonia’s assessor posts a wartime-periods eligibility sheet whose DD-214 is filed on the land records before October 1, and its Code § 25A-3 exempts ambulance-type vehicles under 12-81c; OLR’s 2023 survey instead recorded the specially equipped vehicle option of 12-81h.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, Ansonia.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor’s veterans sheet says a veteran may be entitled to an exemption on property owned October 1 upon meeting the state’s qualifying dates of service, that a DD-214 with an honorable discharge must be filed on the land records prior to October 1, and that exemption amounts vary; it then lists the war periods C.G.S. 27-103 provides for eligibility under 12-81(19), from the Spanish-American War through the Persian Gulf War, with the footnotes on 90 cumulative days and the October 1, 1977 recording grace. Code § 25A-3, adopted by ordinance December 8, 2015, exempts from personal property taxation, pursuant to C.G.S. 12-81c, any ambulance-type motor vehicle used exclusively to transport a medically incapacitated individual, except one used for profit. OLR’s 2023 survey recorded Ansonia as offering the specially equipped vehicle exemption instead - the 12-81h option for a vehicle of a veteran or service member eligible under 12-81 - which the code does not carry; the survey also recorded no 12-81f or 12-81g(b) option. The wartime exemption itself is $1,000 of assessed value under C.G.S. 12-81(19), with the 12-81g(a) additional exemption of twice that for income under the 12-81l limit. Ask the assessor which vehicles Ansonia exempts and on what terms.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
