Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The rules are the State's; see the Texas entry on Local Government Code 192.002. The county's part: the County Clerk's Fees and Recordings page posts the "Military Discharge Application (E-FORM)" and "Military Discharge Application (PDF FORM)" beside the Official Public Records fee schedule. The county's application form is the copy route, in its own words: "APPLICATION FOR COPY OF MILITARY DISCHARGE RECORD - Recorded on or after September 1, 2003." The applicant categories it offers are the statute's: "I am the veteran. I am the legal guardian of the veteran. (Must have certified documentation) I am the spouse, child, or parent of the veteran. There is no living spouse, child, or parent of the veteran and I am the closest living relative of the veteran. I am the personal representative of the estate of the veteran. (Must have certified documentation) I am the person named by the veteran ... in an appropriate power of attorney ... I am an employee of another governmental body. (Must have employee I.D.)" - each with the identifying-information and supporting-documentation lines the county keeps. The recording. Filing the discharge is at no cost under Local Government Code 192.002, the original is returned to the veteran after recording, and the record is confidential - the fee schedule the page posts (the Official Public Records schedule, revised 11.29.2023) prices deeds, UCCs and plats and names no discharge line, because the statute sets none. The clerk's records search (anderson.tx.publicsearch.us) serves the recorded land records; the discharge itself is not public. Where. The County Clerk's office, Anderson County Courthouse, 500 N. Church Street, Palestine, TX 75801 (903-723-7403); filings accepted each day 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
