Amesbury Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Amesbury’s fiscal 2027 exemptions table prints the statute’s $400 under clause 22 and $1,000 for a 100 percent rating under 22E, beside its own note that the council approved doubling the eligible exemptions in November 2020, so this entry prints the table’s amounts and asks the assessors to confirm.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Amesbury.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The City of Amesbury grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a city can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Exemptions & Abatements page’s fiscal 2027 table prints, under its veterans’ row, $400 for a 10 percent rating and $1,000 for a 100 percent rating, the statute’s own amounts. Beside it the page records that in November 2020 the Mayor and City Council approved “an exemption increase to double eligible exemptions”, linking order 2020-159, which asked that the clause 17D, 22 through 22E, 37A and 41C amounts be raised 100 per cent; no doubled figure appears on the table, so the entry asks the assessors to confirm. The Veteran Services office is the Derek Hines / Jordan Shay Veteran’s District, which serves Amesbury, Merrimac, Newburyport and Salisbury from 68 Elm Street, where the EOVS directory lists Kevin Hunt the Director of Veterans Services (978-388-8136). Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Amesbury Veteran Services: Kevin Hunt, Director of Veterans Services (Derek Hines / Jordan Shay district). Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
