Food and fuel. "Food and fuel/gasoline gift cards are available to all honorably discharged veterans and surviving spouses, regardless of what era you served in." The FY 2026 flyer, under a Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency grant: 60 days' residence in the county, a DD-214 showing active duty "with a discharge that is not dishonorable", household income within 200 percent of the poverty level, and proof of income and expenses; apply online.
Burial. "A Burial allowance of $300 may be available to support the costs of the funeral for a veteran with limited assets at time of death," paid to the funeral home unless the applicant shows the bill is paid; bring the death certificate, DD-214 and proof of relationship. The State rules are in the Michigan entry on the county burial allowance.
