Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Agawam grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessors’ Veterans Exemptions page, for fiscal 2027, gives $411 under clause 22 (a service-connected rating of 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart, a Gold Star parent, or a spouse or surviving spouse), $750 under 22A, $1,250 under 22B, $1,500 under 22C, a full exemption under 22D, $1,027 under 22E (a VA disability letter filed every year at 100 percent), a full exemption for a paraplegic veteran, and a full exemption under 22H for surviving parents. $411 and $1,027 are the statute’s $400 and $1,000 raised by the Department of Revenue’s fiscal 2027 adjustment of 2.7 percent, while 22A to 22C stay at the statute; the page names no clause, and no vote was found in the town’s records. The page’s residence test is the current one: six months’ Massachusetts domicile before entering service, or two consecutive years before the tax year begins. Applications are due April 1, 2027. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Agawam Veterans’ Services. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
