Adams Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Adams’s assessors call the department the focal point for exemptions and post the Commonwealth’s Form 96 with no amount of the town’s own, so this entry gives the statute’s; its Veterans’ Services are the town’s own, Kurtis Durocher the Veterans’ Service Officer at Tuesday hours in the Visitor Center.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Adams.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Adams grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Board of Assessors’ page names Paula Grover the Principal Assessor (413-743-8300, extension 117) and Carissa Toomey the Financial Assistant III (extension 116), with Grover, Lorraine M. Kalisz (term expires 2028) and William George Schrade III (2029) the elected members, at 8 Park Street, first floor (413-743-8300, extension 178, fax 413-743-4465), and calls the department "the focal point for excise, personal property and real estate tax abatements and for exemptions on real-estate taxes", printing no amount of the town’s own. The town’s Applications for Abatement page posts "Exemption - State Form 96", the Commonwealth’s own application, and no acceptance of clause 22I or 22J was found on the site, so the figures here are the statute’s; the town’s code of ordinances sits on ecode360.com, which answers 403 to curl. The Veterans’ Services page names Kurtis Durocher the Veterans’ Service Officer (413-662-3040) and Makayla Meczywor the Administrative Assistant, hours Tuesday 1 to 4 p.m. or by appointment at 3 Hoosac Street, the Adams Visitor Center (fax 413-662-3022) - the office the EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 Adams row lists at "3 Hoosac Street, Room 109" ([email protected]). Durocher is the North Adams agent the Williamstown entry records, and the page’s Veterans Benefits section describes the chapter 115 program and the veteran definition its wartime-service dates carry; a 2026 Veterans Events Calendar heads the page. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Adams Veterans’ Services: Kurtis Durocher, Veterans’ Service Officer. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
