Ada County Assessor: Veterans Property Tax Reduction

The Ada County Assessor takes applications for Idaho's veterans property tax reduction, up to $1,500 off the tax on the home and one acre, for a veteran rated 100 percent or paid at 100 percent through unemployability, between January 1 and April 15. A permanent and total rating means no reapplying. It does not reduce solid waste, irrigation or other fees on the bill.

Also called: property tax, property tax reduction, 63-705A, $1,500, April 15, Assessor, homeowner exemption, unemployability, Boise, Meridian.

For: Veteran or service member, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The reduction is State law, Idaho Code 63-705A, administered by the State Tax Commission; the Idaho entry on it sets out the rating test, the absence of an income limit and the survivor rule. In Ada County the Assessor takes the application. How to apply. Between January 1 and April 15 (the next business day if April 15 falls on a weekend or IRS holiday), at the Ada County Assessor's Office, 190 E Front Street, Suite 107, Boise, (208) 287-7200, Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or through the Tax Commission's online portal. Bring a current VA letter confirming the 100 percent service-connected rating, or 100 percent compensation through individual unemployability, as of January 1 of the year you apply. The home must have been your primary residence before April 15 with a current homeowner's exemption; a mobile home counts, and a veteran living in a care facility or nursing home may still qualify. The 2026 brochure says a veteran whose disability is permanent and total does not have to reapply each year. What it covers. Up to $1,500 of the property tax on the home and up to one acre, shown on the tax bill if approved. The Assessor notes it "will not reduce solid waste, irrigation or other fees or certifications charged by government entities". A surviving spouse can keep using it on the same property, but it does not move to a new home.
